| Incheon, the hub of Northeast Asia has the world's eye-catching international districts such as Songdo, Youngjongdo, and Cheongna. Along with the modernity, the city is also home to the historical town of Ganghwado Island which features historical relics including dolmens of the prehistoric age, Chamseungdan (an altar) in Manisan Mountain, Goryeo Dynasty palace site, and Chojijin Fortress in Ganghwado. Incheon is also the logistical hub of Northeast Asia and is equipped with the Incheon International Airport and the Incheon Port, the foundation of Korea's growth engine.
Incheon city is preparing step-by-step to host major events such as the World City Expo 2009 and 2014 Asian Games. One of the critical projects for the events is the old city revitalization project which should be undertaken in order to turn Incheon a fresh and green city.
The monorail construction in the Wolmido Tourism District is a part of the old-city revitalization project. The tourism infrastructure project, which is one of Incheon city's priorities, is designed to connect Jung-gu, the old downtown, with the Wolmido Tourism District for the balanced development of Incheon.
Currently, the lack of tourism infrastructure linking tourist attractions is the most wanting issue. In this sense, the monorail project is critical to boost the tourist industries in Incheon. |
