Located in Dap-dong, Jung-gu, Incheon, the Dapdong Catholic Church was designated as Historical Relic No. 287 on September 25, 1981. In 1897 (the end of Joseon Dynasty), the church was first constructed by the design of Father Coste from the Paris Foreign Mission Church and in 1937, the church was extended by the design of Father Chizalle. As a Romanesque-style brick building with a size of 1,000 m2, the Dapdong Catholic Church is
the oldest western-style modern building in Korea. On the front side, there are three bell towers, and in each towers, there are eight small stone pillars which support an octagonal bell-head dome. Under each bell towers, there is an old wooden entrance. The red bricks on the wall and the white granite stairs harmonize with each other to create a solemn atmosphere. The windows of the church, decorated with stained glass and forming a long arch, are magnificent and beautiful. Going up the stairs behind the church, visitors can see an old fence covered with ivy of such entanglement as to attest to the long history of the church.
